Mandatory Desktop Encryption
In compliance with policy HS 9453-C and to ensure all institutional data is properly secured, we are encrypting all desktop computers within the David Geffen School of Medicine. How will this affect me?DGIT is able to encrypt most computers without a visit to, or interaction with, users. For most computers, excluding Macs, this will be performed overnight, and is not expected to impact your work. For Mac computers, and any computers which we are unable to encrypt remotely, someone from our encryption team will contact you to coordinate a time to encrypt your desktop. Why does my desktop need to be encrypted? In accordance with policy HS 9453-C, all computers used for UCLA business must be encrypted. Visit the Office of Compliance Services website to view both the current and future policy, which will go into effect December 31, 2017. When will my desktop be encrypted? Our encryption team is working with the managers from every DGSOM department to set up a schedule that works best for everyone. More information will be emailed once the schedule for your department is set. Questions? If you have any further questions regarding desktop encryption, please email DGITsupport@mednet.ucla.edu or call Customer Care at (310) 267-CARE (x7-2273). |
