New Enterprise Data & Analytics Team Forming
As one of the pioneers of the UC system’s adoption of the Epic medical health record system, Ernesto DiMarino, is just the person to head up the new DGIT Enterprise Data & Analytics team. Along with standing up Epic’s Clarity database, Ernesto also set up the data warehouse, business intelligence, data modeling, and architecture for UCSD’s Medical Group. From there, he went on to work at the UCSD Super Computing Data Center (SDSC) doing fraud detection for Medicaid. His last career stop in San Diego was a position as the data architect for Scripps Health’s Enterprise Data Warehouse. In his most recent position as the Senior Director of Data Management for Keck Medicine of USC, he built two data warehouses – one for research and one for clinical operations – while leading five teams.
In his new role as Senior Director of Enterprise Data and Analytics for DGIT, Ernesto is reporting to Anja Paardekooper, Senior Associate Dean of Finance and Administration for DGSOM, reviewing financial systems, apps, and databases, and figuring out the future of DGSOM Finance analytics, as well as to Ben Nathan, Chief Information Officer for DGSOM, setting up programming and architecture for the data warehouse. Ernesto is working with Anja and Ben to establish best practices, strategies, and governance regarding DGSOM data.
Ernesto is developing a team of data architects and business intelligence analysts to help set the future of data for the school. He recently added a Database Administrator to his team, David Yune, and looks forward to expanding more to continue to build a well-governed data ecosystem, replete with analytics, in order to provide data as a service in a meaningful way. He wants to make data access easy, fast, and reliable for the entire school by offering an easy-to-use shared platform.
