OATS Portal Enhancement and UC-Wide Expansion
The Outside Activity Tracking System (OATS), created by DGIT’s Software Development team (CTRL), and sponsored by DGSOM Academic Affairs, will now be used across six additional campuses in the University of California (UC) system! Already successfully launched in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, the easy-to-use, web-based application allows faculty to report and track their outside earnings in compliance with APM 671, APM 025, APM 246, and APM 240 University of California Office of the President (UCOP) conflict of commitment policies for Health Sciences Compensation Plan participants.
There are more than 21,200 full-time faculty members across the UC system who are required to adhere to UC policies to report outside professional activity that may interfere with a faculty member’s primary professional obligation to the University, thereby creating a conflict of commitment. These conflict of commitment policies are complex, and require each University to identify which policies apply to various faculty members, the type of reporting and approval needed for each outside activity category, various approval workflows, and added limits imposed by departmental bylaws.
To help ease tracking and reporting for these conflicts of commitment, OATS will be rolled out throughout UCLA, as well as to six additional UC campuses – UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, and UC San Francisco – providing a user-friendly platform that is a win for everyone involved, beginning fall, 2017. The OATS expansion will allow the additional UC partners the ability to electronically collect, review and report on earnings, annual certifications, disclosures, and states of compliance by faculty members, departments, schools and campuses.
