Data Access & Governance
What is data access & governance?
DGIT is on a mission to help departments across UCLA Health Sciences turn data into actionable insights that inform critical decisions. Along with that mission comes a commitment to sound data governance.
Our Enterprise Data team provides the infrastructure, consulting, and policies our community needs to securely share and access data. We’re excited about a future filled with data-based decisions, but we want to achieve that future while keeping the security and integrity of our data intact.
How does data governance affect my work?
We manage the policies and procedures necessary for safe use and sharing of data. When you need to find, interpret, store, use, or send data, we’re here to help you do so securely.
Here are just some of the data functions we support:
- Data cleaning
- Data discovery, validation, and visualizations
- Internal data access and sharing
- Public access to data
- Data security classification
What can data governance add to my work?
Our data governance policies mean you always have a trusted partner to help with your data needs; we’re here to answer any questions related to accessing and using our data.
Here are just a few examples of the questions we can answer:
- How can I securely send data to a colleague at a different university?
- How can I accurately and simultaneously interpret my data and someone else’s?
- How can I bring in an external dataset?
- How can I get access to a dataset that could help my work?
We believe this open access to information leads to significant breakthroughs as researchers and decision makers build on and benefit from the data of others to make significant discoveries.
Request Data Access and Support
We would love to hear your questions about our data access and governance policies and discuss potential projects. To start a conversation, please create a service request ticket with Data Access and Governance in the Short Description field, and a member of DGIT’s Enterprise Data Team will be in touch as soon as possible.
Who may access the data?
We plan on offering free and open data access to UCLA Health Sciences faculty, staff, and students who need information to streamline their work. We’re still working on in-depth data policies and procedures to bring that vision to life. Look forward to more details in 2018!
